You will encounter the typical rural character of the West, the freshness of the River Arnoia, the grandeur of the town’s walls, the tranquillity of Óbidos Lagoon and, finally, the wild beauty of the Atlantic beaches. It is a land that breathes history and identity.
Accompanied by a rich biodiversity, from lake birds to ancient woods, you will also discover the flavours that define the soul of the region: fruit, warm bread, fresh fish and convent sweets. Here, the communities keep traditions alive that make the experience authentic and human.
Every step reveals a secret, every landscape offers a new hue. It is a journey taken at the pace of walking, yet one that will remain etched in your memory forever.

At this stage, the route immerses you in an authentic setting, where rural life is evident at every turn. The Óbidos reservoir welcomes you with its serene waters, a true sanctuary for wildlife.
As you pass through A-dos-Negros, you are led back to the reservoir’s banks, but in a new light, venturing into centuries-old woods. It is a world apart, where diverse species invite observation and the atmosphere is filled with freshness and peace. You can hear a natural orchestra, marked by the soothing sound of water gently lapping against the forest’s edge.
The stage culminates majestically with the view over the town of Óbidos. The walls dominate the landscape, heralding the entrance to a dream destination. The journey, from the wild countryside to the town’s white, flower-filled streets, is a visual crescendo that prepares you for the historical experience just around the corner.
As you leave the walled town behind, the path carries with it the echo of ancient stones. Along country lanes, you take in the agricultural life of the district as you pass through the villages of Trás do Outeiro, Carregal and Arelho; the landscape opens up, revealing the serenity of the fields and the unique light of the West.
The arrival at Óbidos Lagoon marks a sensory transition; the light intensifies and the horizon gains depth. This vast aquatic sanctuary is home to a vibrant biodiversity. Herons trace geometric patterns in the sky, waders probe the banks and ducks glide across the surface, in a choreography of infinite peace.
The stage ends at Covão dos Musaranhos, almost always by the water’s edge. It is the perfect spot to rest and watch the meeting of light and lagoon, bringing the walk to a close with a sense of absolute peace.
Although the Atlantic is already on the horizon, this stage initially preserves the tranquillity of the riverside. As you follow the banks, the trail pays tribute to the bond between man and the lagoon, in a setting dotted with fishing nets, boats and memories that defy the passage of time.
Suddenly, change takes hold; the sea air fills the atmosphere, the wind finds its voice and the light intensifies. The coast claims its place in the spotlight. Places such as Praia do Rei Cortiço, Barroca da Adela and Praia da Estrela rise like balconies over the sea, where the cliffs and dune vegetation create a wild visual poetry.
At this point, the ground beneath your feet ceases to be merely a path and becomes the horizon. The roar of the waves leads you to Praia D’El Rey, where nature displays its grandeur. It is the sublime conclusion of a journey that unites green with blue, transforming a simple walk into an eternal memory.
